Hydrocarbon resins are manufactured from petroleum-based raw materials, whether aliphatic (C5), aromatic (C9), DCPD (dicyclopentadiene) or mixtures of these. There are three basic categories of hydrocarbon tackifiers, some with several subcategories. Petroleum sources petroleum resin because of its name, has a low acid value, good miscibility, waterproof to ethanol and chemical acid characteristics is chemically stable, and adjust the viscosity and thermal stability, good characteristics. Petroleum resin is generally not used alone, but as promoters, regulators, modifiers and other resins are used together.
